ArmInfo. On February 22, an interstate highway (M-6) will be temporarily closed. It is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology.
According to the source, the road will be closed from 12.00 to 7:00pm on the 45th kilometer of the road from the "Tumanyan" station to the Odzun intersection. The reason for this is the conduct of blasting operations in order to improve the track. All drivers are advised to drive around in the direction of Odzun- Aygeat-Stepanavan-Vanadzor. Blasting operations will be carried out as part of a project to upgrade an interstate road (M-6) leading to the border of Georgia.
To recall, in the framework of the project it is envisaged to upgrade 18.8 km of the road as a matter of priority. Armenia attracted 51 million euros from the EIB and $ 50 million from the ADB for the project. Credit resources are planned to be spent on repairing 92 kilometers of the road. In addition, three tunnels built during the Soviet era, as well as 12 outdated bridges will be repaired. Restoration of the M-6 highway will significantly reduce the travel time between Armenia and Georgia, establish an efficient traffic flow and increase the level of services. It is expected that these changes will contribute to improving the level of safety on the country's roads. According to the Ministry of Transport, this section of the road accounts for about 60% of the intensity of cargo transportation from Armenia.
