ArmInfo.Armenian specialists left for Syria, to Aleppo to participate in humanitarian missions. The head of the Armenian Defense Ministry David Tonoyan said this on February 21 during a reception in honor of Defender of the Fatherland Day at the Russian Embassy in Armenia.
"Armenian specialists left for Syria, Aleppo to participate in humanitarian missions, in this connection, we would like to express special gratitude to the leadership of the Russian Defense Ministry for promptly solving the issues of comprehensive support for Armenian specialists in their arrival to the place of deployment," the head of the defense department emphasized.
At the same time, Tonoyan stated that cooperation in the humanitarian field has become an important milestone in the Armenian-Russian relations.
To note, the humanitarian mission of Armenia consisting of 83 people began work in early February in Aleppo, which are assigned tasks for demining outside the zone of hostilities, mine awareness of the population and the provision of medical assistance to the inhabitants of Aleppo. The sending of a humanitarian mission to Syria by Armenia caused a negative reaction from the United States. The US Embassy issued a statement by the US State Department, in which Washington criticized this move by Yerevan. The statement also notes that Washington does not support cooperation between Armenia and Russia in the implementation of this mission.
