ArmInfo.Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on Regional and Eurasian Integration Mikael Melkumyan and members of the commission met on February 15 with the delegation of the State Duma of the Russian Federation headed by Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots Leonid Kalashnikov.
The press service of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia told ArmInfo that welcoming the guests, Mikaell Melkumyan stressed the strategic partnership and the traditional friendship underlying the Armenian-Russian relations. He stressed the importance of cooperation at international parliamentary platforms, in particular, within the framework of the PA of the CIS and the PA of the CSTO. Melkumyan touched upon international projects that underlie the interests of the two countries, and stressed the importance of implementing the Armenia-Iran-Georgia-Russia energy corridor.
Commission Deputy Chairman Armen Pambukhchyan raised the question of the need to address the issue of using the alternative route to Upper Lars via the new transport corridor through the Black Sea coast and stressed the presence of support from Russian partners, especially in the development of relevant legislation.
Leonid Kalashnikov, in turn, stressed the importance of close cooperation between the two relevant parliamentary committees and holding joint meetings. He touched on the issues of harmonization of legislation in the framework of the EAEU and the CSTO, noting that the commission headed by him developed a package of proposals in this direction.
Issues related to a number of events aimed at intensifying inter-parliamentary relations were discussed; the importance of the active participation of the Armenian side in these formats was stressed. During the meeting, the role of the Armenian community of Russia in the development of bilateral economic relations was also emphasized.
