ArmInfo. Students of Armenian universities on a fee basis will have the opportunity to pay for their education on a monthly basis. The amendments to the Law on Education, proposed by NA Deputy from the Prosperous Armenia Faction Tigran Urikhanyan, were approved at the February 15 sitting of the RA Government.
Presenting the draft amendments, RA Minister of Education and Science Arayik Harutyunyan recalled that the draft document last year received a positive assessment of the executive body. However, due to the lack of a quorum in the parliament, I could not get the necessary number of votes. However, this time the government issued a positive opinion, and the document will be sent to the National Assembly in the prescribed manner. As the minister noted, the country's universities have still not encountered the students' statements about the monthly tuition fee, however, the submitted document will become imperative. Previously, students made payments either quarterly or for the entire academic year. Now they will appear alternative.
The minister also said that negotiations are being completed with the Central Bank of the country for the introduction of a new program regarding preferential student loans. According to him, priority in this program will be given in a number of popular disciplines.
To note, at present, seven commercial banks in Armenia are providing study loans for studying in higher educational institutions of the country.
