ArmInfo. The cooperation between Armenia and Cyprus is based on the friendship of the two peoples and has serious prospects for development, Defense Minister of Armenia David Tonoyan stated at a joint press conference with the Minister of Defense of Cyprus Savvas Angelides.
According to him, during today's meeting, all areas of defense cooperation between the countries were discussed. "Two more documents were signed - on the exchange of information in connection with the situation in the Middle East and the organization of compulsory military service," said Tonoyan, adding that Cyprus is one of the few EU countries that maintains the system of compulsory military service and wants to exchange experience in this direction with Armenia.
The parties intend to continue cooperation in the field of training of military personnel, conducting exercises. During the meeting, a high level of political relations was noted. The parties confirmed the common approaches on the international agenda.
The Minister of Defense of Cyprus also stressed the great potential for developing relations and the existence of common interests on the regional agenda. He stressed the great role of the Armenian community of Cyprus in the development of greater bilateral relations.
It should be noted that the cooperation program for 2019 signed between the ministers today includes 15 events.
