ArmInfo. The chief architect of Yerevan, Artur Meschyan, at a press conference on January 24, reiterated that part of the cafe around the Opera and Ballet building would be dismantled.
As Meschyan noted at the press conference, it is not so much and not only about unloading the area around the opera building. "We wantto reconsider the architectural ensemble as a whole, we want to plant trees on this territory, that is, we are going to give it a new solution, emphasizing the uniqueness of the Opera and ballet building. We want this part of the city to become a place of rest for everyone, both for the citizens of Armenia and for tourists, and not to be built up with a chain of various cafes and restaurants, "Meschyan stressed. In the context of urban planning, the chief architect also touched on the topic of yard garages.
Meschyan stressed that the mayor's office also intends to plant trees in the courtyards. "Construction of garages at the expense of green areas will be prohibited. Some garages that interfere with green areas will be dismantled. A similar approach will be applied to kiosks," he stressed.Toward the end, Meschyan touched upon the problem of renovating the housing stock. He noted that within a few months Yerevan Municipality intends to begin the process of renovating the housing stock in Ajapnyak. According to the chief architect, many buildings have exhausted their useful life, and this issue will be resolved within a few years. "I want to note that the process of restructuring some emergency and semi-emergency buildings has already begun. In this issue, the support and assistance of the City Planning Committee is very important.
We also need to rebuild many houses in Sari Taga and other districts of Yerevan," he noted. According to Meschian, in many quarters of Yerevan the number of emergency houses goes beyond the permissible limits.
