ArmInfo. Since yesterday, a protest rally of merchants, who bring goods from Turkey to Armenia through Georgia, takes place at the customs point "Bagratashen".
They recently opened the entrances and exits to the customs point, which have been closed since yesterday. The head of the National Security Service of Armenia Arthur Vanetsyan arrived in Bagratashen for talks with the participants of the action.
The merchants said that they had opened the entrances and exits to the customs at the request of Vanetsyan. "During the meeting with Artur Vanetsyan, we explained to him the reason for our protest. Previously, the import of goods from Georgia was not limited, now we learned that we can import only 25 kg, as there were changes in the legislation. However, Vanetsyan said that an exception would be made today, and we will be able to carry the accumulated cargo through customs, but the new rules will continue to apply, "the protesters explained.
They also noted that until recently they had ordered things from Turkey by mail and collected them from Georgia, stressing that most of the merchants did not know about the changes in the law. To note, from January 1, 2019, the cost of imported goods excluding customs duties and taxes was reduced three times, and weight - twice. The Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission foresees the changes. The State Revenue Committee informed individuals that, in accordance with the new regulations, if individuals bring into the customs territory for personal use goods whose value does not exceed 500 euros, and the weight is 25 kg, no fee is charged. In case of exceeding the established limit, the goods should be paid, at least 4 euros for each kilogram exceeding the established limit.
