ArmInfo. Starting from this year, surgical treatment of oncological diseases in Armenia will be fully covered by the state order. Minister of Healthcare of Armenia Arsen Torosyan announced this on January 23 at a meeting with journalists.
According to the Minister, this year an additional 700 million drams were allocated from the state budget for the treatment of oncological diseases. Last year 1.1 billion drams were allocated for these purposes. "As a result of discussions, we passed the conclusion that we should ease the burden of citizens, we are talking about co-payment," said Torosyan.
As the head of the Ministry of Healthcare pointed out, the state had previously paid a small portion of the cost of surgical treatment of oncological diseases. It was illogical to call it "state order." Currently, according to Torosyan, most of these 700 million drams will be used to pay for the share that was previously paid by citizens. The Minister of Healthcare stressed that the state will fully pay for prompt treatment of oncological diseases in those medical institutions of Armenia, which the Ministry of Healthcare will select at market prices. Arsen Torosyan also informed that for the first time, within the framework of the state order, money will be allocated to radiation therapy on linear accelerators for about 200 patients, each course of which costs 1 million drams (about $ 2,000).
