ArmInfo. A member of the Armenian delegation to PACE Edmon Marukyan in his speech in Strasbourg touched upon the statements of delegates from Azerbaijan in connection with the early parliamentary elections held in Armenia on December 9, 2018. According to Marukyan, new opportunities appeared in the country after the elections. "I would also like to appeal to the former criminal regime. If anyone should speak about the criminal regime, the Azerbaijani delegates are among the last to do this. At these moments, protest actions are being held in Azerbaijan, at which people demand the release of political prisoners. It's in Azerbaijan that the rights and freedoms of people are violated in the most shameful way. Moreover, Baku does not comply with the decisions of the ECHR that concern political prisoners. And after all this, are you talking about discrimination in Armenia?", Marukyan wondered.
"I hope everyone here understands that the purpose of these provocative speeches is to divert attention from the agenda of the main discussions of the plenary session, in particular with regard to political prisoners in Azerbaijan. I wish you a" velvet revolution ", and the sooner it happens the better ", the delegate concluded.
