ArmInfo.Former MP from the previously ruling Republican Party of Armenia, General Manvel Grigoryan, accused of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition and misappropriation on a large scale, does not want to appeal to the European Court of Human Rights-ECHR.
This was stated by one of Grigoryan's attorneys - Levon Baghdasaryan on January 21 at a meeting with journalists.
According to the lawyer, earlier, when the courts granted petitions to the body conducting the arrest proceedings, the defense offered Grigoryan to apply to the European Court. "However, he refused this idea, stating that he would not sue Armenia," said Baghdasaryan.
Referring to the information that Grigoryan plans to go to France for treatment, the lawyer said that the general had to undergo treatment in France before his arrest, but for obvious reasons could not do it. Now, being in the status of the accused, as pointed out by Barseghyan, it is not yet known whether he can go to France.
To recall, the court of general jurisdiction of the city of Yerevan on the evening of December 21 decided to release on bail of General Manvel Grigoryan on bail of 25 million drams. He was charged under two articles: illicit trafficking in arms and ammunition and the appropriation of food and supplies intended for the Armed Forces. At the end of November, the arrested general appealed to the government, announcing his readiness to transfer to the state the territory of the Ankalich farm that belongs to him in the Aknalich community, costing about 6 billion drams. Lawyer Arsen Mkrtchyan urged not to consider this step as an attempt to pay off. After the court issued a decision on the release of Grigoryan on bail, the inhabitants of Echmiadzin blocked Grigoryan's entry into the city, thus expressing his attitude towards him. On December 22, Acting , Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressing this topic stated that he did not understand the grounds on which the court's decision to release Manvel Grigoryan on bail was made. At the same time, according to Pashinyan, he understands the discontent of people protesting against the decision of the court. "Holding a protest is the right of citizens," he said. Protests were also held in Yerevan. Further, the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia filed an appeal against the decision of the court of general jurisdiction to release General Manvel Grigoryan on bail.
