ArmInfo. Giving the status of a ministry to the Police and the National Security Service, and thereby politicizing them, will be a serious political mistake. Speaker of Armenian Parliament Ararat Mirzoyan expressed such an opinion in a conversation with journalists, commenting on the fact that the opposition had previously criticized the former authorities for the fact that these structures are directly subordinate to the head of the Cabinet, thus creating a super-prime institute in Armenia.
According to him, one of the institutional achievements of Armenia is that these structures lost their ministerial status and thus were politicized. "It's not expedient to change something now," Mirzoyan assured.
At the same time, Mirzoyan assured that there are many mechanisms in order to make the work of these departments accountable not only to the prime minister, but also to, say, the parliament. "To this end, it is possible to organize meetings of the heads of these departments with the MPs, which will create an opportunity to discuss a number of topical issues," Mirzoyan said, without mentioning that, if necessary, the heads of the National Security Service and the Police had previously held meetings with MPs and in various formats questions.
