ArmInfo. Formally, there are no monopolies in Armenia, but the republic has not yet got rid of the consequences of having monopolies, which have long been operating in various market segments. The Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia David Ananyan stated this at a press conference on January 16.
According to him, over the years, monopolies have been formed in the import of various goods, including bananas and sugar. "Today, the number of sugar importers has increased, but is the Armenian market so large that the economic entity that has been a monopolist for many years voluntarily gave up its position? It's hard to imagine that if the current market and consumption volumes were maintained, new players would appear in the country," said the head of SRC .According to David Ananyan, the authorities today are thinking about how to create conditions for increasing consumption, for example, setting up production using sugar or other goods for the subsequent export of finished products.
