ArmInfo. Replacing the Azerbaijani side of the units of the Armed Forces of the Armenia with border guards did not affect the situation on the border between the two countries. On January 8, Artak Davtyan, Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, expressed this opinion in an interview with journalists. At the same time, according to him, Yerevan will welcome the start of negotiations with Baku on the joint organization of service at the state border.
"At the moment, this change in the situation has not gained any positive or negative effect," he stressed. Today, according to the head of the General Staff, this process is still one-sided. "We are taking actions on our part. Without an announcement, there is no need for this," he explained. In the future, according to the head of the General Staff, the Armenian side will welcome possible negotiations on the definition of the border with Azerbaijan, as well as the joint organization of the service as a whole. "As they say, as it should be on the state border," Davtyan explained.
To recall, in mid-December it became known that Azerbaijan intends to replace part of the armed forces units on the border with Armenia in Gazakh and Agstafa regions with border troops. Commander of the border troops of Azerbaijan Elchin Guliyev, explained this decision by high combat readiness and equipment of the border forces. "The decision will allow strengthening the combat readiness of the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, creating new reserve units," E. Guliyev said.
