ArmInfo. The court against the former MP, former chairman of the Union of Volunteers "Yerkrapah" Manvel Grigoryan, extending his arrest, acts in accordance with the instructions of the Special Investigation Service. Lawyer Levon Baghdasaryan in an interview stated this with journalists.
According to him, although Grigoryan is accused of appropriating 7 million drams, this money was transferred to the General Prosecutor's Office's deposit account in September. The lawyer said that the companies owned by Manvel Grigoryan and his relatives are being checked. "Leave aside the validity of checks. On the question of what size the alleged violations may be, the investigative body responds - a maximum of 1 billion drams. We give the state property worth 5 times more. We ask on what grounds a person is arrested, because there is no reason. There is no answer, "the lawyer said, assuring that all Grigorian's property had been acquired legally, which is also evidenced by the case materials. "If the investigation had found that the property had been acquired illegally, a corresponding criminal case would have been initiated, but it would not have been. And the investigation, I assure you, carefully checked all the materials and documents, "the lawyer emphasized.
The lawyer said that such selective justice in the first place harms the image of the state. According to him, Grigorian's "illegal detention" under arrest is nothing more than torture. "Such illegal actions, when a lawyer declares about them, and the authorities keep stone silence, allow to conclude that a political decision has been made regarding Manvel Grigoryan to hold him as a hostage and slowly kill him," the lawyer said, recalling that the ombudsman also responded.
According to him, if Grigoryan really committed a crime, he should answer to the fullest extent of the law, however, there are no grounds for arrest, and possible damage has been restored. The lawyer referred to the recent statement by the head of the National Security Service Arthur Vanetsyan that in case of restoration of damage a person can remain free. "We do not demand the release of Manvel Grigoryan from responsibility. We say that there are no grounds for his arrest. If the guilt is proven in the future, then let him be brought to justice, "said Levon Baghdasaryan.
At the same time, he stressed that if the protection of Grigoryan is not successful in the republican courts, she will appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. "Although Manvel Grigoryan is categorically against it, he says that he does not want to sue his own state, but I think that we must persuade him," he said.
To note, Manvel Grigoryan is accused of illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, as well as of stealing property of another.
