ArmInfo. The government of Armenia will partially reimburse the cost of studying in a country's higher educational institutions of a certain group of persons. This decision was made at a meeting of the executive body on December 13.
Presenting the draft decision, Acting Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia Arayik Harutyunyan noted that this refers to persons who are not involved in free higher education. The document, in particular, proposes to partially compensate (50%) the cost of education for 112 students with two or more children, as well as 650 students participating in hostilities from April 2-6, 2016.
In turn, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that at present, negotiations are being held with the Central Bank on "a significant reduction in interest rates for student loans for successful students." The Acting Prime Minister expressed the hope that the negotiations would be successfully completed, which would be an additional savings for both the students and their parents. Nikol Pashinyan stressed the importance of developing mechanisms according to which successful students should be freed from all possible risks. To note, today loans for studying in higher educational institutions of the country are issued by a limited number of commercial banks in the country. On average, individual tranches are provided with up to 1.8 million drams at an average rate from 10% to 12% and with a maturity of 10 years. Under the state subsidy program, the RA government subsidizes only 2-3% of the expenses of the most successful students in the country.
