ArmInfo. If within 18 years fair elections were held in Armenia the Republican party (RPA) would not have received the necessary votes in any of them. The leader of the "My step" bloc, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed such an opinion at a press conference in Yerevan, commenting on the results of the early parliamentary elections held yesterday.
According to the Acting Head of Government, the elections on December 9 were a clear confirmation of this. At the same time, Nikol Pashinyan stressed, 80% of all mayors and village elders are representatives of the RPA. "They also occupy a significant niche in the state administration system, since we have abandoned the policy of personnel purges, political persecution and vendetta," Nikol Pashinyan said.
To note, the former ruling, and now the opposition Republican Party did not enter the National Assembly of the country, gaining 4.7% of the vote. The party was represented in parliament since the founding of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia in 1995. According to the results of the elections, the "My Step" bloc received 70.43% of the votes, Prosperous Armenia and Enlightened Armenia parties won 8.37% and 6.37% of the votes, respectively. It is these three political forces that have passed to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. The voting results have been summed from all the 2010 polling stations. The current elections were characterized by low voter turnout, which amounted to 48.63% of voters, which is significantly lower than in the previous parliamentary elections in 2017, when more than 60% of voters came to the polls.
