ArmInfo. The initiative group "Freedom to the President" announces the start of the stage of the meeting of the rally and demands to immediately release the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharian.
As stated in the statement of the initiative group, the current authorities of Armenia, "grossly violating the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Armenia, exerting unprecedented strong pressure on the judges, reprimanding the national interest of the Armenians and denouncing the famous pages of modern history to foreigners, illegally arrested Artsakh during his historic victories, the first president of the NKR and the national hero of Artsakh, the second president of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharyan.
"The members of the Initiative, considering the incident as an anti-national crime, are preparing to publicly declare their strong protest "against this terrible injustice and the current regime, which by successive steps is trying to establish the autocracy regime in Armenia, which is fraught with grave dangers for the two Armenian states."The group calls for the immediate release of the retired president and "to cease the settlement of personal accounts in relation to him." They also demand to stop "tough pressure on the judicial system, independent media and freedom of speech, and the resignation of criminal officials.""We announce the start of the rally struggle stage and call upon all those who hold the honor of an Armenian and a dignified and prosperous future of our children to join us. Given the fact that today we have extraordinary parliamentary elections in Armenia, and tomorrow, on December 10, the results, the beginning of the pickets and rallies, we are announcing from December 11, "the initiative group" Freedom to the President "says in a statement.Recall that on December 7 the Court of Appeal upheld the first instance verdict on the arrest of the 2nd President of the Republic of Armenia Robert Kocharian. Without waiting for the transfer of the verdict to the investigator, Robert Kocharyan himself appeared in the "Kentron" penitentiary unit, where he was later arrested. The office of the second president of Armenia called the arrest a political vendetta. The RPA, however, qualified this as pre-election pressure from the current government on political opponents.
