ArmInfo. The issue of the new CSTO Secretary General remains unsolved. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, told journalists about this on December 7, commenting on the words of the Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko that the post would be given to a representative of Belarus.
According to him, the leaders of the CSTO countries have not yet resolved the question of the candidacy of the new Secretary General of the Organization. As Peskov noted, Lukashenko proactively raised this issue at the EAEU summit, although it was not on the agenda. "This is a completely normal practice: any head of state can raise issues that he considers necessary," Kremlin Spokesman said. However, according to him, at that time not all the leaders of the CSTO countries were present at the negotiating table. Conversation with them on this topic was continued later at the CIS summit. "Work will continue," Peskov summarized, Tass reports.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the meeting of the Supreme Council of the EAEU countries, Lukashenko, in an interview with journalists, said that the representative of Belarus could take the post of CSTO Secretary General. "We had almost held CSTO meeting, in principle we solved the problem of appointing the secretary general," he stressed. The Spokesman of acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan Arman Yeghoyan immediately refuted the information. He stated that the CSTO meeting was not held, therefore, the issue could not be resolved, and the position of Armenia on this issue did not undergo any changes.
