ArmInfo. The Presidential Administration of Armenia responded to publications in the media about the need for Armen Sarkissian to intervene in the situation surrounding the post of CSTO Secretary General.
According to the report received by ArmInfo, the President of Armenia carries out its activities within the framework of the powers and functions vested in the RA Constitution. "In the same document, the functions of implementing foreign policy are assigned to the RA government. Nevertheless, if necessary, Armen Sarkissian uses his experience and personal contacts to help solve foreign policy tasks. And this need is formed after consultations between the president and the Prime Minister", the press service of the President of the Republic of Armenia reports.
To note, after the withdrawal of the CSTO Secretary General Yuri Khachaturov, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Belarus spoke in favor of an early termination of the powers of Armenia as the country's chairperson and the transfer of the post of general secretary on the rotation procedure to Belarus. Acting Prime Minister of ArmeniaNikol Pashinyan said that he would demand explanations to his colleagues on this account, since there were internal agreements behind closed doors on this matter. The final decision should be made on December 6 in St. Petersburg.
