ArmInfo. Armenian President Armen Sargsyan, who is in Paris on a visit, met with UNESCO Director General Audrey Azule.
As the press service of the Armenian leader told ArmInfo, at the meeting the sides discussed issues of active involvement of Armenia in the organization's activities, as well as prospects for a better presentation of Armenian culture and heritage at UNESCO. The interlocutors touched upon the UNESCO initiative for the restoration of Iraqi Mosul. In this context, the parties discussed the implementation of joint projects with the Matenadaran - the institute of ancient manuscripts.
Azul praised the efforts of Armenia to integrate Armenian refugees from Syria. The parties emphasized the importance and necessity of promoting cultural diversity, universal values and tolerance through joint cultural and educational programs.
The Armenian President drew attention to the ancient and rich cultural heritage of Gyumri, valuable historical and architectural structures.
Noting that many of them are currently in poor condition, Sargsyan found it desirable for UNESCO to participate in their preservation and restoration. In this regard, the possibilities of the restoration by UNESCO of one of the buildings in Gyumri of historical and cultural value were discussed.
