ArmInfo. The member of the Sasna Tsrer party, the hero of the Karabakh war, Zhirayr Sefilyan was again denied retroactive citizenship. This is reported by the secretariat of the All-Armenian Sasna Tsrer Party, in response to the intensification of discussions on the next denial of citizenship to Sefilyan.
The Sasna Tsrer party recalls that on August 1, Zhirayr Sefilyan addressed Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan about backdating Armenian citizenship, but the head of the Prime Minister's office, Eduard Aghajanyan, said that this issue could be resolved in court.
In this regard, in a popular statement of the Sasna Tsrer party, in particular, it is noted: "The head of the government staff of Armenia, in fact, fixes the lack of desire to grant Zhirayra Sefilyan retroactively, and if he does not agree with this decision, he can appeal to court".
"Sasna Tsrer" reports that Sefilyan on August 2, in accordance with the procedure established by law, applied for citizenship also under the usual procedure. He attached a letter to this statement in which he called on the Armenian Prime Minister to resolve the issue of retroactive citizenship, given his previous requests for citizenship. "After two months, in early October, Zhirayr Sefilyan received a letter from the government staff, which stated that the letter was set in the prescribed manner," the report says. At the same time, representatives of the intelligentsia appealed to the Prime Minister with a request to grant Sefilyan Armenian citizenship retroactively, as he had previously applied for citizenship three times, however, "his applications were illegally rejected." Meanwhile, the Sasna Tsrer party stresses that the law does not prohibit the previously submitted applications for citizenship to be considered respectful and provides an opportunity to receive it in hindsight.
