ArmInfo.. President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan believes that the representative of Belarus will become the new Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), TASS reports.
"We have a collision due to the fact that [Yuri] Khachaturov, the representative of Armenia, was our secretary general and was recalled," Nazarbayev reminded reporters after the CSTO summit. The President of Kazakhstan noted that "according to the [CSTO] charter, Belarus is following after Armenia." "All the heads of [the CSTO states] said that we need an acting secretary general from the Belarusian side. We will determine this issue on December 6 in St. Petersburg," Nazarbayev promised.
The post of CSTO Secretary General until November of this year was held by Yuri Khachaturov. On July 26, the Special Investigation Service of Armenia charged Khachaturov with the overthrow of the constitutional order in 2008. On July 28 court of general jurisdiction of Yerevan released Khachaturov on a written undertaking not to leave after paying a deposit of 5 million drams ($ 10,000).
On November 2, by the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, Khachaturov was dismissed from the post of Secretary General of the organization. Early recall was initiated by the Armenian side. Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov said today that the new CSTO Secretary General will be determined by the heads of state on December 6 at a meeting in St. Petersburg. The Armenian side insists that the post of Secretary General should remain with Armenia, since this issue is not connected with this or that person, but with the statutory norms of the country rotation.
