ArmInfo. The public organization "New Generation" temporarily ceases its activities due to increased pressure on its members, threats from various segments of the population, as well as discrimination. This is stated in the statement of the organization received by ArmInfo.
According to the statement, all this was caused by the organization's initiative to hold an LGBT Christian forum in Armenia. "This initiative was considered by various groups and organizations as an attempt to desecrate national and Christian values, as provocation and betrayal. Using the situation, some politicians and circles, speculating with the question, tried to extract political dividends on the eve of the elections. Meanwhile, the LGBT community is a community made a big contribution to the implementation of the revolution in Armenia. However, recent events have also hit their interests, "the statement says.
In connection with the current situation, the organization turned to various structures and international institutions. The organization from the government, in particular, demands to adhere to its international obligations, to create appropriate guarantees for the protection of the rights of sexual minorities, and also to make a statement condemning the prevailing atmosphere of intolerance.
The organization requires an international organization to make a statement condemning intolerance in the republic, as well as including Armenia in the list of countries unsafe for LGBT_communities and organizations involved in their rights. The "new generation" also demands not to grant entry visas to the United States and Europe to those engaged in anti-agitation against sexual minorities.
The organization is required by the Police to ensure the safety of members of the LGBT community. She also urges the media not to promote discriminatory policies. She demands from the organizers of the protest action not to come out with calls for violence, and from public organizations to monitor the situation with the rights of sexual minorities.
It should be noted that in mid-November a forum of LGBT Christians, initiated by the New Generation organization, was to be held in Yerevan. However, under the pressure of the Church, socio-political organizations, and also society, the event was canceled.
