ArmInfo.The Free Homeland Party will nominate its candidate for the upcoming presidential elections in Artsakh in 2020. This was announced by the head of the party faction Arthur Tovmasyan.
According to him, the previous parliamentary elections showed that people trust the party, and for 15 years, Free Homeland has accumulated enough political capital to take responsibility for leading the country.
"Who will be this candidate will be decided at the party congress in 2019. And we hope that our candidate will get a vote of public confidence. According to the results of independent elections, it is also very important for us that both presidential and parliamentary elections are held in accordance with the principles of democracy and in accordance with the Electoral Code of the Republic of Artsakh ", said A. Tovmasyan, adding that the strengthening of democratic values in Artsakh has no alternative.
When asked in what format they see governing the country in the event of a victory in the elections, Tovmasyan noted that they are opposed to homogeneity, and the potential of parliamentary and extra- parliamentary forces should be used for productive work.
According to the information available to ArmInfo, the leader of the party, the former Premier of Artsakh, now advisor to the NKR President on special assignments Araik Arutyunyan will be a candidate for the Free Motherland in the presidential election.
The presidential elections in Artsakh will be held in 2020. The current President Bako Sahakyan, according to the Constitution, is not entitled to be nominated more. So far, there are no other candidates who have announced their participation in the presidential election.
