ArmInfo. And about. On October 23, Minister of Justice Artak Zeynalyan received OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Arlem Desir.
As reported by the press service of the Ministry of Justice, during the meeting Zeynalyan and Desir discussed freedom of speech in Armenia, as well as issues relating to freedom of expression. Desir noted that the changes that have taken place in Armenia create a new opportunity to strengthen press freedom and this requires legislative reforms.
According to Zeinalian, despite the fact that today there are some legislative gaps, however, in terms of access to information, the legal framework and law enforcement practice in Armenia are among the best in the world.
Touching upon the protection of information sources, Zeynalyan noted that in Armenia there is a decision of the Constitutional Court, according to which the case law of the European Court was introduced into the legal system of Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the implementation of legislative reforms aimed at protecting the rights of journalists, as well as the possibility of holding courses to improve the skills of journalists. At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached on obtaining expert opinions and recommendations from the OSCE on reforms in the field of freedom of information.
