ArmInfo. Representatives of the ruling force won the local elections in Armenia. On October 21 elections were held in 49 communities of the republic. Sevak Mikayelyan, son of associate of Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan Sasun Mikayelyan, was elected mayor of the city of Hrazdan. He received 10,681 votes. Meanwhile, his opponent, non-party Levon Stepanyan received 4,819 votes.
Another associate of Pashinyan Diana Gasparyan, became mayor of Echmiadzin, gaining 4,519 votes. To note, that this is the first woman mayor in the history of the third republic. In Armavir, the representative of the authorities, David Khudoyan, also won, he got 6693 votes. But in the city of Kapan candidate supported by Pashinyan Narek Babayan with 8499 votes lost to non-partisan Gevorg Parzian, who received 10,507 votes.
Many experts believe this is a response of the Kapan people to the appointment of the former deputy chief of the police, Hunan Poghosyan, as governor of Syunik.
Meanwhile, the elections to the councils of rural elders in some regions were also won by representatives of the former authorities. The Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia prepared materials on 16 cases of violation of the law during the elections.
