ArmInfo.The US is ready to work with Armenia, however, the agenda of cooperation is behind it. The US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent said this on October 16 in Yerevan.
According to him, the organization of the next meeting of the Armenian-American intergovernmental commission, which is likely to be held in February 2019, after the early parliamentary elections in Armenia, is now being discussed. "At this meeting, we will consider in a new way the course of our further relations. As Ambassador Richard Mills said, US external assistance to Armenia has already increased. And we are ready to work with Armenia, which is very important. Armenia is the one to develop the agenda. And we are ready to render our assistance to the Armenian side, in particular in such issues as the fight against corruption. We have a lot of experience in this area, we have worked with Georgia, Ukraine and we can share our experience in this direction with Armenia, " Kent said.
At the same time, he added that today, representatives of the Armenian-American Chamber of Commerce spoke about the challenges in the economic field, the opportunities that would create decent jobs in Armenia, and the United States is also ready to work with the Armenian side to diversify the economy. As an example, Kent cited the fact that the Armenian-American University could train the next generation of specialists. "Regarding investment by American companies, we also looked at the experience of our companies here, whether it be the hydropower industry, the Coca-Cola company, and investments in the mining industry. There is a large investment that is currently under review, and we attach the utmost importance to respect for the previously concluded contracts has been preserved, it will be an incentive for new investments, creation of jobs, so that people can work here with dignity and build their future. And we are ready to work with Armenia also in different economic, cultural, educational areas, " the US official concluded.
