ArmInfo.The face-to-face meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the recent summit of the Commonwealth in Dushanbe eased tensions in Nagorno-Karabakh, Chairman of the Executive Committee, CIS Executive Secretary Sergey Lebedev said this in Minsk today.
"I myself witnessed how the heads of delegations Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan approached each other several times and discussed the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The results are obvious - now tensions have slightly decreased in the conflict zone, "said Lebedev, reports interfax.by.
According to him, relevant instructions were given to the competent structures in both states to reduce tensions. "We very much hope that this first meaningful contact between the leaders of the two states will be continued and will give positive results for resolving this conflict," Lebedev stressed.
He also stressed that all the leaders were positive about the contacts between Nikol Pashinyan and Ilham Aliyev at the Commonwealth summit in Dushanbe.
To note, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had a conversation on the sidelines of the CIS Summit in Dushanbe. The parties affirmed their commitment to the process of negotiations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the strengthening of the ceasefire regime for preventing incidents on the line of contact and Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
The parties decided to develop mechanisms for building prompt contacts between relevant authorities.
