ArmInfo. On September 25, the parliamentary delegation of Armenia headed by RA National Assembly Speaker Ara Babloyan, who is on an official visit in Bern, met with the Chairman of the National Council of Switzerland, Dominique de Buman.
As the RA NA press office reports, during the meeting the chairman of the National Council of Switzerland expressed gratitude to the Armenian side for the warm welcome during his visit to Yerevan in February this year. Dominique de Buman welcomed the democratic processes taking place in Armenia, noting that they can be the best incentive for the further development and prosperity of the country. "For me, all this is understandable, since Armenia is a country of culture and best traditions," Dominique de Buman said. Ara Babloyan, expressing gratitude for the invitation and warm reception, noted that Armenia attaches great importance to the stability and continuity of its relations with Switzerland. Political dialogue at a high level has been formed, inter-parliamentary ties, cooperation of friendship groups are active, there is an atmosphere of mutual trust and mutual understanding. The speaker expressed the hope that this visit will help further strengthen the inter-parliamentary relations. "The friendship of our peoples of the two countries has a centuries-old history, in different situations Switzerland has always been with the Armenian people," said the head of the Armenian parliament, pointing to Switzerland's mediating role in the Armenian- Turkish rapprochement. "During the meetings we repeatedly noted that we have no problems with the people of Turkey or Azerbaijan, we have a problem with those leaders who can not understand or appreciate the values that we share." We should strive to do everything for the development of democracy and human rights, both in Armenia and Artsakh, "the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia said.
According to him, it is difficult to develop democracy and open doors to Europe in the region in which an authoritarian regime has developed, mainly in Turkey and Azerbaijan. Touching upon the events in Armenia, Ara Babloyan stressed that Armenia again managed to surprise the world with its humanism, tolerance and democratic achievements. He expressed confidence that regardless of the change of political forces, the Armenian-Swiss relations will continue to develop in the same spirit. The sides also pointed out the need for intensification of bilateral economic ties, the importance of cooperation was emphasized, in particular, in such areas as agriculture, science, tourism, education.
