ArmInfo. The voting in the elections to the Yerevan City Council of Elders ended. At 8.00pm local time, the doors of all 475 Yerevan polling stations were closed. To note, according to the situation as of 5:00 pm the turnout at the elections was 34, 72%, according to the CEC.
The need for early elections arose after the former mayor of the city, Taron Margaryan, resigned. After the Council of Elders could not elect a new mayor, the government of the Republic of Armenia terminated the powers of the members of the Council.
Four blocs and eight parties participated in the elections. According to the results of the vote, the first number candidate on the list of political force, who received more than 50% of the votes, automatically becomes the mayor of the capital of Armenia. If none of the political forces has won more than 50% of the votes, all factions included in the Council of Elders have the right to nominate their candidate, who must be elected by a majority votes of the members of the Council, consisting of 65 members. The "My step" bloc is leaded by Hayk Marutyan, the "Luys" bloc - Artak Zeynalyan, the "Prosperous Armenia"- Naira Zohrabyan, the "Yerevan Community" - Anahit Tarkhanyan, the "Yerevan residents" bloc - Ararat Zurabyan, the "Yerkir Tsirani" party - Zaruhi Postanjyan, the Heritage Party - Raffi Hovhannisian, the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun" - Mikael Manukyan, the "Hayk" - Gevorg Hovsepyan, the Party of reformists - Artak Avetyan, the Orinats Yerkir party - Mher Shahgeldyan, the Democratic Path party - Manuel Gasparyan.
