ArmInfo. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan today received Commissioner for Human Rights Dunya Mijatovic. As the press service of the Armenian government reports, the prime minister expressed readiness for effective cooperation.
Referring to the political events of recent months, Nikol Pashinyan noted that the Armenian society is experiencing a period of drastic changes. The reforms initiated by the government after the velvet revolution, he said, are aimed at ensuring the protection of human rights, the formation of civil society, ensuring a new level of progress in the development of democracy, enhancing the role and participation of citizens in decision-making, and fighting corruption. In this regard, the head of government attached great importance to cooperation with the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
In turn, Dunja Mijatovic noted that she followed the development of political events in Armenia and welcomes their peaceful settlement.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the participation of women in the social and political life of Armenia. The Prime Minister noted that women have played and continue to play an important role in the development of democratic processes in the country. Nikol Pashinyan stressed that the government encourages the active participation of women in political life and in the system of government. The parties also discussed a number of issues related to the development of civil society, the prevention of family violence, the protection of the rights of various groups of society, etc.
