ArmInfo. Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan spoke at the conference initiated by the OSCE / ODIHR in Warsaw on the activities of his office during the processes in Armenia in April-May of this year.
As the press service of the Human Rights Defender office told ArmInfo, Tatoyan told about the round-the- clock work of his office, visits to police stations, and about round-the-clock monitoring of rallies.
The Human Rights Defender of Armenia also touched upon the topic of freedom of speech and assembly, as well as guarantees for their provision. "During the meetings in April-May of this year, it was important to maintain peace, and the leader of the My Step movement, parliament deputy and incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan played an important role in this issue. He urged the participants of meetings to maintain tolerance, peaceful behavior and not allow violence, "the Human Rights Defender of Armenia said.
As a challenge, in the current months, Tatoyan voiced the problem of the appearance of fake profiles in social networks, and the aggressive behavior of these groups that leave aggressive comments and call for violence. He also voiced the need to ensure the protection of journalistic activities. The conference emphasized the important role of national human rights institutions in the protection of freedom of speech and assembly on international platforms.
