ArmInfo. The Political Affairs and Democracy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe discussed the domestic political situation in Armenia.
As Head of the Armenian delegation to PACE, Deputy President of the Armenian Parliament Arpine Hovhannisyan wrote on her Facebook page, "European parliamentarians, in particular, discussed issues related to the sharp restriction of freedom of speech and pluralism in the country against the backdrop of recent internal political events, active propaganda of hatred dissent, criminal cases against representatives of the former ruling regime, attempts to pressure the legislative and judicial authorities on the part of the executive, the initiative of constitutional reforms, as an attempt by Prime Minister of Armenia to retain their power. "
Members of the Armenian delegation in this regard presented to their European counterparts facts, videos and media publications. "The audio recording of the telephone conversation between the Heads of the National Security Service and the Special Investigation Service of Armenia was also discussed," Hovhannisyan writes.
As a result, the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee decided to appeal to the PACE Monitoring Committee with a proposal to conduct preschedule monitoring in Armenia to ensure freedom of speech, independence of the legislative and judicial authorities from the executive, as well as the lawfulness of the latest high-profile criminal prosecutions.
