ArmInfo. The opening of the Armenian-Chinese school in Yerevan should symbolize the beginning of a new page in the relations between Armenia and China. This was announced on August 22 at the opening ceremony of the school by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
In his words, in addition to the humanitarian connotation, in-depth study of the Chinese language in Armenia is an economic necessity, because the number of Chinese tourists in Armenia increases every year. Interest in the republic began to manifest itself on the part of Chinese businessmen. "There are buses carrying Chinese flags on our streets, ambulances from China are rushing to help people in need of medical assistance, and the Armenian people appreciate this support," the RA Prime Minister said. He also stressed that knowledge of the Chinese language will open new opportunities in studying the great human heritage and will connect the culture of two states and peoples.
In his turn, the Chinese Ambassador to Armenia Tian Erlong stressed that the opening of the school is a memorable event for the two countries and a big step in the development of bilateral relations. Answering the question of ArmInfo, the diplomat stressed that currently there is an active discussion of investment cooperation between Armenia and China. Over time, the ambassador continued, Chinese companies will open their enterprises in Armenia, and then specialists with knowledge of the Chinese language will be needed. Recall that the government of Armenia in 2016 decided to build a school with in-depth study of the Chinese language on the basis of one of Yerevan's senior schools. The Chinese side, within the framework of the signed agreement, assumed all the obligations to design and build the school on an area of 15 thousand square meters. The right of control of work was assigned to the Armenian side. The project, the total cost of which was estimated at $ 15 million, was fully funded by the PRC. 405 schoolchildren from 5 to 12 classes will study here. The Chinese language will be studied in depth as the main foreign language, and all other subjects will be taught in Armenian.
