ArmInfo. Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ara Babloyan made a statement in connection with the internal political situation in the country.
Babloyan said in his statement that as head of the Parliament he listened attentively to the speech of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashian on the Republic Square, where the latter summed up the results of 100 days of the government's activity.
"Listening to Pashinyan, I expected to see a program aimed at ensuring the security of the country, economic development, improving the well-being of the population and, of course, further deepening democracy. There may be 100 days short in order to hear the full vector of the Prime Minister's development on these issues and constructive ways I believe that we need to fight against corruption, monopolies, I am convinced that we always need to listen to the voice of the people, we need to inform the people as much as possible and involve them in the process of making important decisions. we must strictly follow the Constitution and the laws, as well as with full respect for the international commitments undertaken by Armenia, and I regret to state that I am deeply concerned about the situation that has arisen in our country, "says the statement of the speaker of the Armenian parliament, which arrived in ArmInfo.
At the same time Babloyan believes that the natural social and political life in the country, constitutional and legal relations and public solidarity of state authorities are under threat. At the same time, the speaker of the National Assembly sees dangerous tendencies to deepen intolerance in attempts to divide society into two camps - revolutionaries and anti-revolutionaries.
"This concern has further intensified after the Prime Minister's following statement:" I advise everyone to think before saying something, and then they also say that we restrict their right to freedom of speech. You still have to learn how to think before speaking about something, then to think about your freedom of speech. "I must admit that Pashinyan's formulation was a surprise to me, because it is a direct violation of dissent. In parallel, threatening judges and dissidents with the National Service Pashinyan not only exerts pressure on the judiciary, but also on any person in a country that has a different opinion, "Babloyan said.
The head of the parliament also stated that the Prime Minister's speech contained dangerous promises for the Constitutional system of the country and the foundations of statehood, which directly contradict Armenia's international obligations for the construction of a legal and democratic state. Babloyan also believes that under the thesis of "transitional justice" an undue hint was made of the retroactivity of the law.
At the same time, the Speaker of the Parliament believes that possible changes in the Constitution in the National Assembly by the head of the executive body, with a threat to achieve the desired result, are obvious pressure and coercion on the legislative power.
"For me this is at least incomprehensible, since the possibilities of such discussions and decision-making have not been exhausted in the parliament, therefore, in view of the foregoing, I plan to meet with the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, the human rights defender, the Supreme Judicial Council and representatives of international diplomatic missions for Having been faithful to my constitutional mission, I assure you that the National Assembly will continue to exercise the powers entrusted to it by the law "said Babloyan.
