ArmInfo.The representatives from Armenia proposed to make amendment in the charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization according to which prime minister of the country will represent it in the organization's security council, Interfax reports siting the press service of the organization.
According to the press service the initiative was voiced at the session of the CSTO permanent council on August 14. "The draft protocol on amendments to the Collective Security Treaty signed on May 15, 1992 and the CSTO Charter from October 7, 2002 was also discussed, which was proposed by the Armenian side in connection with the coming into force of the amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia. According to those amendments decisions on issues considered by the Collective Security Council of the CSTO, are within the competence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia".
The source informs that the CSTO Permanent Council decided to send draft documents in one package for interstate consideration. The representative of Armenia Yuri Khachaturov is the incumbent CSTO Secretary General. In July, he became a suspect in a criminal case initiated by Armenian law enforcement agencies. The Special Investigative Service of Armenia pressed charges against him in the framework of the case on dispersal of the demonstration on March 1, 2008, when the participants of the protest against the results of the presidential elections, won by Serzh Sargsyan, were dispersed. During the dispersal, ten people were killed, more than 250 were injured. At that time Khachaturov was the chief of the Yerevan garrison of the Armenian Armed Forces. He was appointed Secretary General of the CSTO in 2017 for three years. On July 28, the Yerevan Court of First Instance decided to arrest Khachaturov. The Special Investigative Service of Armenia allowed him to leave Armenia and return to work in the Russian capital, obliging him to appear in the investigative body if necessary.
Armenia proposed the CSTO member countries to launch the process of replacement of the organization's Secretary General. Former president of the country Robert Kocharyan was also arrested charged for overthrowing the constitutional order in Armenia in 2008. However, he has been released recently. The incumbent prime minister of Armenia is Nikol Pashinyan.
