"Gayane" ballet is one of the best performances of the Armenian Opera and Ballet Theatre, staged in 1974 by the living legend of the Armenian ballet, the outstanding dancer, ballet master, Honored Artist of the Republic of Armenia Vilen Galstyan (he is also the author of the libretto). In the music of Khachaturian, the choreographer first of all seeks the basis for creating a national character, not limited to the ethnographic reliability lying on the surface, trying to penetrate deeper into the composer's intention. He delicately feels the style of the Khachaturian's work, its vivid national character, the flamy temperament and the richness of the melodic language and, in accordance with this, builds the whole play. He organically combines the richest arsenal of classical dance with the characteristics of the Armenian national dance.
