ArmInfo. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, during a meeting with RA Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, said he was impressed by the revolution that took place in Armenia, as well as the changes that followed.
As the press service of the Armenian Foreign Ministry told ArmInfo, Guterres assured that the UN is ready to contribute to the further development of Armenia, in aspects that are important for the country.
In his turn, Mnatsakanyan stated that Armenia attaches importance to multi-faceted cooperation within the UN framework, and confirmed the commitment and interest of the new government of the country to further enrich the joint agenda of cooperation.
The Armenian Foreign Minister spoke about the latest domestic political processes in the country, noting that the priorities of the government are clear-based on the broad mandate received from the people, to implement reforms aimed at establishing justice in the country, the rule of law, providing equal opportunities in the social and economic spheres, combating corruption, and in all those areas that underlie the government's program.
In the context of the organization of extraordinary elections, Mnatsakanyan stressed that the Armenian authorities are ready to work closely with international organizations on the proper organization of elections, including the United Nations Development Agency. The UN Secretary General said that Armenia can rely on the experience of the Organization and count on its assistance.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the forthcoming Francophonie summit in Yerevan, touched upon the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Mnatsakanyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to an exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group, noting that the priority for the Armenian side in the negotiation process is the security and status of Artsakh. The Armenian Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of creating an atmosphere of peace conducive to the promotion of the negotiation process, adherence to the ceasefire regime and the rejection of aggressive rhetoric.
The parties discussed in detail issues related to Armenia's cooperation within the UN framework, as well as steps to expand and deepen cooperation.
