Alexei Polyukhovich, deputy commander of the 102nd Russian base in Armenia, told journalists on July 18, after the meeting with the governor of Shirak region, "We have reached an understanding on this issue. In turn, the governor of Shirak region Karen Sarukhanyan said that the Russian military reported a force majeure situation and apologized for the incident. "This happened for the first time, and they assured that the next time this will not happen again, an official investigation is being conducted against those guilty, and they will necessarily bear responsibility," Sarukhanyan said.
Meanwhile, Armenian Prime Minister's Spokesperson Arman Yeghoyan informed that this issue is under the close attention of the head of government.
It is noteworthy that for already two decades servicemen of the 102nd Russian military base have been conducting some elements of the exercises in this area near the village of Panik, which is located next to Alagyaz high-altitude range.
