ArmInfo.On Wednesday an annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival will kick off in US capital Washington, which will present cultures of Armenia and Catalonia. "Armenia is the first country in the Caucasus region, which will take part in this authoritative festival", the press service of the USAID informs. According to the source Smithsonian Folklife Festival will be on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., June 27 to July 1 and July 4 to 8, 2018. More than 170 craftsmen, designers, musicians, cooks, winemakers, dancers and performers from Armenia and Diaspora will attend the festival.
During the Festival, Armenian cooks will teach visitors how to make the staples of a feast: cooking lavash flatbread in tonir (wood-fired oven), making cheese, and grilling khorovats (skewered meats). While tasting and toasting Armenian wines, visitors will watch folk dances, and dance themselves. Besides, within the festival all those who want can have a virtual tour in two historical places in Armenia -Areni Cave and Noravank monastery. Millions of people form USA and various countries will visit the festival, online broadcasting of the festival events will also be organized.
The Armenia: Creating Home program will be presented at the 2018 Folklife Festival, which features two case studies offering a glimpse into Armenian culture, greatly influenced by its surroundings, heritage, and ongoing exchange with its many diasporas.
To note, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival, established in 1967, honors contemporary living cultural traditions and celebrates those who practice and sustain them. Produced annually by the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, the Festival has featured participants from all 50 states and more than 100 countries.
