ArmInfo.President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed a decree appointing Peter Litvin as the country's ambassador to Armenia. According to Ukrainian media, the relevant decree was published on the website of the head of the Ukrainian state.
Piotr Litvin, the brother of the former head of the Verkhovna Rada, Vladimir Litvin, is a Ukrainian military commander, Lieutenant-General, in May 2012 he was the commander of the 8th Army Corps of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the outbreak of hostilities in the Donbas, he held the post of Commander of Sector "D". According to the same media, Litvin is one of the accused of "Ilovaysky Kettle" case - when Ukrainian troops were surrounded near Ilovaisk. A number of witnesses said that he escaped from the battlefield on August 25, 2014, leaving his troops.
To note, there has been no Ambassador of Ukraine to Armenia for already three years. Petro Poroshenko dismissed the Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Kukhtu in July 2015 and the position has been vacant so far. According to Ukrainian media, the reason for the dismissal of the ambassador was the statement by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan about the Crimean referendum, in which he called this event "another example of the exercise of the people's right to self-determination.
