ArmInfo. Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is on a working visit to Brussels, presented the latest developments in Armenia during the meeting with Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.
According to the Armenian Foreign Ministry's press service, Hahn described these processes as a successful example of democratic changes.
The Armenian Minister also presented the new government program and foreign policy priorities fixed in it, expressing gratitude to the EU for the consistent assistance to the reforms being carried out in Armenia. The Armenian Foreign Minister presented the government's programs and activities aimed at the consistent implementation of reforms, the rule of law, fighting corruption, stressing the importance of interaction with partners in order to achieve the goal. Mnatsakanyan noted the important role of the Armenia-EU comprehensive and expanded partnership agreement as a framework for bilateral cooperation.
The Armenian Minister informed on the steps being taken based on foreign policy priorities and envisaged by the government's program, which are aimed at protecting the interests of Armenia. The sides discussed issues of cooperation within the framework of the Neighborhood Policy, and also exchanged views on the prospects for cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. In this context, the interlocutors touched upon the agenda of the upcoming informal meeting of foreign ministers of the EaP members in Minsk on June 22. Mnatsakanyan and Hahn touched upon regional and international challenges, as well as approaches, assessments and stands on them.
Mnatsakanyan touched upon in detail the stand and priorities of the Armenian side on an exclusively peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, stressing the need to create an environement aimed at establishing peace in order to advance the negotiation process. Armenian Foreign Minister also expressed gratitude to the EU for consistent assistance to the OSCE Minsk Group.
