ArmInfo. A monument to the legendary marshal, twice Hero of the Soviet Union Ivan Baghramyan was opened in Belarus.
The monument to the legendary commander was opened in the Township of Vitebsk region of Belarus. The name of Baghramyan is one of the central streets of Gorodok. At its beginning in the square there is a monument-bust to the hero. The grandchildren of the marshal came to the opening of the memorial.
This is the first monument to Marshal Bagramyan in Belarus. Work on the bust was conducted for two years. Sculptor was Spartak Harutyunyan, the main architect of the project was Armen Sardarov. The opening of the monument to Bagramyan in Gorodok is not accidental. In November 1943 he was appointed commander of the First Baltic Front. The first task was for him to remove the so-called Gorodok protrusion. Already in the first days of December 1943, a military operation was carried out, thanks to which more than a thousand settlements were liberated.
