ArmInfo. Today, on May 17, the 9th meeting of the EU-Armenia subcommittee on justice, freedom and security was held.
As the press service of the Ministry of Justice informs, the meeting was held under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Justice of Armenia Vigen Kocharyan and the head of the EU Department for Eastern Partnership.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Deputy Minister touched upon the changes caused by internal political events in Armenia. Kocharyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to fulfilling the international obligations of the Armenian government, including within the framework of the Agreement on Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership between Armenia and the EU signed on November 24, 2017.
The head of the EU Department for Eastern Partnership Dirk Schuebel in his speech stressed the organization's readiness to deepen existing multifaceted cooperation and support the effective implementation of ongoing reforms.
During the meeting, issues of migration and mobility, combating human trafficking and corruption, crime prevention, reform of the judicial system, issues of judicial cooperation, as well as issues related to combating cybercrime, etc. were discussed.
Dirk Schuebel and other EU representatives touched upon agreements on visa regime facilitation, cooperation in mobility, asylum, border management and security in the context of further migration and mobility.
In his speech, Deputy Minister of Justice Vigen Kocharyan touched upon the steps taken in recent years in the sphere of judicial and anti-corruption activities in Armenia, and also stressed the duration of the work done in this direction. Kocharyan also highly appreciated the support of the EU partners in the field of modernization of the penitentiary system.
At the end of the meeting, the EU reaffirmed its readiness to deepen and expand Armenia's financial and technical assistance to ensure the consistent implementation of reforms in the rule of law, security, justice reform, fighting corruption, human trafficking and terrorism.
