ArmInfo. Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Karen Karapetyan, who the Republican Party will nominate on May 1 as its candidate for prime minister of the country, will also head the RPA itself. ArmInfo was informed about this by informed sources in the leadership of the party.
Karapetyan's candidate was nominated by former Prime Minister and RPA leader Serzh Sargsyan who resigned under the pressure of the national movement. The members of the government unanimously supported this suggestion.
To recall, the RPA has 58 seats, and 53 votes for the election of the prime minister. All other fractions combined have 48 mandates. Thus, if there are no defectors from the RPA to the opposition camp, that political observers do not exclude, then Karen Karapetyan will be elected prime minister. Sources in the RPA note that at the moment there is unanimity in the faction on Karen Karapetyan's candidacy.
