ArmInfo. The leader of Armenian opposition, head of the Elk parliamentary faction Nikol Pashinyan said he will not refuse candidacy for the post of prime minister of Armenia if people assign him. This was stated by him on April 24 at a press conference in Yerevan.
"If the people put such responsibility on me, I will undertake it" Pashinyan said. In his view, the power is already in the hands of the people and, figuratively speaking, the resistance is simply useless. The Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) no longer exists, there is the top of the party, but no more. He noted that the velvet revolution took its first victory. But there is more than one question on the agenda.
"The first step has already been taken: the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan as Prime Minister, the second step is the appointment of a candidate proposed by our people as prime minister, after which an interim government will be formed, and early parliamentary elections will be held within a reasonable time," Nikol Pashinyan said, adding at the same time , that the future Prime Minister will not be from the Republican Party of Armenia.
The opposition leader stressed that earlier Serzh Sargsyan stated that the force, which received 7% of the votes, can not put forward demands to the authorities.
"But you all saw that it was not about 7%, but about 90% of the total electorate. And it is these 90% of the people's votes that should be taken into account during the peaceful change of power, "said Nikol Pashinyan, adding that earlier parliamentary elections were falsified everywhere, which, in turn, provoked opposition from the people. It is now necessary to urgently reform the Electoral Code and the Law on Parties, which will allow holding really free and transparent elections that must be held within a reasonably fast time.
Pashinyan noted that the party led by him is fully ready to form a Cabinet of Ministers. "People who have led such a movement will be able to rule the country," Pashinyan said, adding that he is negotiating with other political forces. Touching upon the possibility of the RPA's "disobedience" to its demands, he said that through popular pressure and many thousands of rallies, he will finish things. "Today, 90% of the people are close to us," the oppositionist summed up.
"I want us to state irevocably that the velvet revolution can not be left halfway, it should be brought to an end, and I am confident tha people will stand up to the end in the name of the final victory," Pashinyan said, once again pointing out the impossibility of the vendetta. And what is to issues related to the crimes committed, those will have to be solved exclusively in the legal field, including the events of March 1, 2008.
