ArmInfo.UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres calls on all the parties in Armenia to the circumsized and constructive dialogue, as well as to ensure stability in the country and in the Transcaucasus region.
According to TASS information agency, deputy official representative of the secretary general Farhan Hak stated this yesterday commenting on the situation in Armenia and the resignation of the country's Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, which followed a string of opposition rallies. According to Hak, the UN administration head is closely following what is happening in Armenia, and "took note of the announcement of the resignation of Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan."
"Considering that the events in general have developed according to the peace scenario, the Secretary General calls on all parties involved to continue showing restraint, to avoid provocative rhetoric and to engage in an open and constructive dialogue."
The Secretary-General calls for further respect for democratic rights and the rule of law, as well as to maintain peace and stability in Armenia and in the region as a whole, "the Deputy Representative of the Secretary General said in a written statement. As a result of mass protests of the opposition and its supporters in Yerevan and a number of other Armenian cities, Sargsyan resigned on April 23 from the post of Prime Minister .
