ArmInfo.Armenian National Security recently periodically received information on illegal, the destructive activity of the special services of foreign states, the spread of radical views, the propaganda of intolerance and violence in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. This is stated in the message of the department posted on the website of the National Security Service of Armenia.
The message, particularly, reads that Armenian National Security Service, called by law and international treaties to ensure the security of the individual, society and the state from external and internal threats, the integrity of the country, its sovereignty, constitutional order, natural development economy, protection of citizens' rights and freedoms, material and spiritual values of the public, as a result of the analysis of the operational situation in the country, recorded the growth trends of terrorist and radical manifestations that pose a direct threat to Armenia's national security.
Thus, in the course of its activities, the NSS has recently received periodic information about the illegal, destructive activity of the special services of foreign states, the spread of radical views, the propaganda of intolerance and violence in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. In this context, the NSS noted the revitalization of the activities of various individuals previously in the field of view of the Service in connection with the planning of unlawful detail directed against society and the state.
According to the information received, as the National Security Service notes, the citizens of Armenia GB and Sh. M., associated with the armed group Zhirayr Sefilyan and Sasna Tsrer, having created a criminal community and headed them, intended to launch explosions with the help of 100-150 homemade radio- controlled explosive devices in places of social significance in a number of localities of the country, including in the Armenian capital. These actions, according to the National Security Service, were supposed to cause a general atmosphere of fear in Armenia, and to promote pressure on the authorities, which, because of this, had to take certain steps.
According to the above facts, on April 21 the Investigation Department of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia instituted criminal proceedings on the grounds of clauses 1 and 2 of A 223 (creation of a criminal group), part 2 of A 35-217 (preparation of a terrorist attack by an organized group) 235 (acquisition of explosives by prior conspiracy), part 3 of A 236 (manufacture of explosives) of the Criminal Code of Armenia. 19 searches were conducted, detonators, wicks, homemade explosive devices were found. In addition to the two above-mentioned persons, another 4 people were detained. "The National Security Council of Armenia calls to refrain from any manifestations that threaten Armenia's national security, but the ministry calls on the population of the country, including the participants in the meetings, to exercise maximum vigilance," the department statement read.
