ArmInfo. Armenian Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan made an emergency statement urging the leader of the opposition movement, MP Nikol Pashinyan to an immediate dialogue.
In particular, Sargsyan's statement reads: "Since last week, marches and rallies have been held in Yerevan, every citizen of Armenia has the right to peaceful actions. The authorities respected and will respect this right, however, unfortunately, often these rallies and processions went beyond law, acquiring an anarchic character, as repeatedly stated by the police. These manifestations are fraught with irreversible consequences, they endanger the fragile and complex harmony of Armenian society. This harmony must be based on tolerance and solidarity. Deeply concerned about the current political situation. In order to avoid irreversible losses, I call on Nikol Pashinyan to sit at the table of political negotiations, and without delay. This may contribute to all the political forces of the country."
Pashinyan said that he will speak with the authorities only to discuss the terms of the resignation of Serzh Sargsyan. "I urge Serzh Sargsyan to accept our demand based on an objective assessment of the situation, the people said that it's too late to talk to the authorities," Pashinyan said, stressing that he does not intend to go to vendetta. The MP also said that he is not afraid of a repeat of the bloody events of March 1, 2008, as today Armenians around the world are rendering assistance to the people's movement. "I call on all our compatriots of the Diaspora to help us more actively and urge Serzh Sargsyan to resign, I especially appeal to Serzh Tankian, Charles Aznavour and other prominent figures of the Diaspora. Today the situation in Armenia is quite different," the oppositionist said.
