ArmInfo. The non-constructive policy of Azerbaijan does not inspire optimism for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This was announced on April 17 by RA candidate prime minister, third president of Armenia, Republican Party leader Serzh Sargsyan from the rostrum of the National Assembly of Armenia.
According to him, the expected and, at the same time, unexpected actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces in April 2016 were expected. One of the lessons of that war, according to the candidate for prime ministers, was that Armenia should no longer hope for the official Baku's refusal from a forceful resolution of the issue. "We can never hope that Azerbaijan will ever abandon its militant intentions to resolve the Karabakh issue militarily, and the April war only proved it," said Serzh Sargsyan. The second lesson, he said, was that Armenia began to pay more serious attention to the reform of the armed forces, their re-equipment, the formation of a military-industrial complex and the solution of the social problems of servicemen. "We will continue to pay special attention to modernizing our army, maintaining the high morale of soldiers and officers, not only modernizing the army with new foreign weapons, but also developing our military- industrial complex," said Serzh Sargsyan, adding that a close attention is paid to the social security of officers of the armed forces, who must be confident of their future.
Having stated that today the negotiation process on the Karabakh conflict is "just worth it," Serzh Sargsyan stressed that the reason for this is the position of Azerbaijan, which does not follow the agreements reached earlier not only on the very document of the settlement, but also on other items designed to reduce the level of tension at contact line of troops. "Armenia is ready for a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue if Azerbaijan rejects its views and approaches to unilateral concessions from Armenia and Artsakh alone," the candidate for prime minister said.
The authority of Serzh Sargsyan as RA President was terminated on April 9 after the election of the fourth president of Armenia, Armen Sargsyan, who became the first head of state elected by the parliament after the country's transition to a parliamentary form in 2015 board.
